Service dog is awarded an honorary diploma for attending all classes

During the graduation ceremony of Seton Hall University in New Jersey, a special companion with four legs joined the thousands of graduates to receive a diploma. The companion, named Justin, is a 6-year-old service dog belonging to Grace Mariani, a graduating student. A video shared on the university's Twitter page captured Justin happily wagging his tail as he confidently walked across the stage at the Prudential Center in Newark on May 22.Justin, a mix of Labrador and golden retriever, was appropriately dressed for the occasion, wearing a blue mortar board and a matching bandana that had "Class of 2023" printed on it. In the video, Justin can be seen eagerly sniffing the diploma being presented to him by Seton Hall's president, Joseph E. Nyre.

The crowd, filled with families and fellow graduates, erupted into loud cheers as Justin skillfully took hold of the diploma with his mouth while accompanying Mariani, who crossed the stage in a motorized wheelchair.According to a tweet from the university, Canine Companions for Independence's service dog received a special recognition for faithfully attending all of Mariani's classes at Seton Hall University. Justin, who is Mariani's second service dog from the nonprofit organization, was honored for his commitment to supporting her throughout her academic journey, as confirmed by Jeanine Konopelski, the vice president of marketing and advocacy at Canine Companions.
