SenseTime Founder Tang Xiaoou Passes Away

One of the largest artificial intelligence companies in China, SenseTime Group, announced on Saturday that its founder  Tang Xiaoou, passed away late on Friday.

The software development company was founded by Tang, a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has expanded rapidly due to demand for its facial recognition technology from both the public and private sectors. SenseTime did not provide Tang's age but claimed he passed away from an undisclosed ailment.

According to Forbes' real-time wealth tracker, Tang had a net worth of $1.1 billion at the time of his death. With a $6 billion net worth, he made his debut on the Hong Kong 50 Richest list in 2022 at position 16. Tang, who has a net worth of $2.5 billion, was ranked 33rd in the most recent survey, which was released in February. The value of his SenseTime shares determined his whole net worth.

"Professor Tang's insight, enthusiasm, and never-ending scientific investigation will always motivate us to stick to our initial goals and keep moving forward."
