On Tuesday morning, a collision between a crane and a passenger train occurred in the southern Netherlands, causing the train to derail and resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, several of which were severe. Emergency services were deployed to Voorschoten, a town situated between Hague and Amsterdam, where the accident occurred at around 3:35 am on Tuesday. The incident was initially thought to have involved a freight train, but it was later confirmed to be a passenger train that collided with a crane on the track, possibly due to maintenance work. The collision caused a fire in the train's rear carriage, and around 50 people were onboard.
Following the accident, Dutch Railways announced the cancellation of all passenger trains between Leiden and parts of The Hague. Rescue teams have been working to rescue the affected individuals, and three helicopters have been dispatched to the site to aid in the rescue operation. The collision in the southern Netherlands has been declared an emergency by the Dutch authorities, and it is estimated that as many as 50 individuals may have been injured.
