Big announcement Mexico made on Wednesday. After the entire 2 years of corona virus, Mexico has finally developed its own Covid 19 vaccine 'Motherland'. It's a step for Mexico towards being self sufficient. Before 'Motherland' or 'Petria' vaccine, Mexico survived on vaccines from the US and China. The Mexican government and 'Avimex' company worked together to make this new vaccine, which is also considered as a 'booster dose', according to head of Mexico's commission for science and technology, Maria Elena Alvarez Buylla.
Mexico started making this vaccine in 2020, but due to some flaws and slow process, it couldn't reach out to it soon. During that period, Mexican citizens got doses of Pfizer and Astra - zeneca. Suddenly, the number of people taking vaccines fell in late 2022 and that's why Mexico still has lots of Abdala vaccines which Mexico imported from Cuba.
Mexico is celebrating this great achievement but it's not clarified yet if the vaccine is authorised by an approval agency.
