Massive 7.7 earthquake in Pacific ocean triggers Tsunami warning in Fizi, Vanatu & New Zealand

A tsunami threat warning has been sent to Vanuatu, Fiji and New Caledonia. An earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude hit Loyalty Island and created a threat of tsunami in the South Pacific region.

The US Geological Survey stated that the earthquake was 37 km long. Its epicenter was on the Loyalty Islands and it was near part of the ‘Ring of Fire’. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre was expecting waves up to 3 feet. New Zealand’s National Emergency Centre said that unpredictable streams may be experienced in coastal regions. But the tsunami waves were actually about 1.5 feet. Vanuatu National Disaster Management asked people from coastal areas to evacuate.
