The incident occurred during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and drew condemnation from Palestinian leaders and other Arab countries.
The Hashemite monarchy of Jordan, which has been the custodian of Jerusalem's holy sites since 1924, condemned the actions of the Israeli police and called on Israel to remove its forces from the mosque.
