The IDF announced on Tuesday that it had discovered additional Hamas tunnels in northern Gaza, close to a university and a Ferris wheel. Later on, both tunnels were demolished, according to The Times of Israel.

The Israeli military said on Wednesday that airstrikes on the Gaza Strip had killed a Hamas weapons manufacturer and multiple fighters as part of an air and ground offensive that targeted the terrorists' network of tunnels under the challenged Palestinian enclave.

Israeli forces have surrounded Gaza City, the main base of the Hamas militant group in the region. While Hamas claims its troops have suffered major losses, the IDF claims that troops have penetrated into the centre of the heavily populated city.

Fearing that the conflict will spread throughout the Middle East, US President Joe Biden again urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to "pause" the siege in Gaza. The Israel Defence Force (IDF), for its part, rejected any idea of a cease-fire and blamed Hamas of ignoring its request for the same.

“Hamas terrorists tell themselves that there will be a ceasefire. There won’t be one. We are moving forward,” IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari said.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Netanyahu already announced that Israel would oversee Gaza's security after its successful elimination of Hamas, the enclave's controlling organisation, from that region.

Concerns over a potential reoccupation of the Palestinian enclave have been sparked by Netanyahu's recent interview with television channel ABC in which he discussed managing security in Gaza. John Kirby, a senior White House official, quoted Biden in stating, “the President still believes a reoccupation of Gaza by Israeli forces is not good. It's not good for Israel; it's not good for the Israeli people.”

40 Filipinos escape conflict-torn Gaza Strip via Rafah crossing into Egypt

40 Filipinos escape conflict-torn Gaza Strip via Rafah crossing into Egypt - Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

According to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, dozens of Filipinos escaped the war-torn Gaza Strip into Egypt via the Rafah crossing after negotiations for their safe passage and intervention by Qatar for the opening of the border.

According to Marcos, in a video message from Manila, the forty Filipinos were on their way to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, from where they planned to board an aircraft back to their homeland. Last week, two Filipino doctors were able to cross Egypt from the Gaza Strip.

“I hope the rest of our countrymen who also wanted to return home can also exit properly with their spouses and loved ones,” Marcos said.

Israeli Troops 'in the heart of Gaza city'

One month after Hamas's horrific attacks on October 7, Israel declared on Tuesday that its soldiers were fighting "in the heart of Gaza City" as part of an ongoing battle to destroy the Palestinian militants.

The Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, like Hamas, has also received a severe warning from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He said in a televised statement "If Hezbollah makes the choice of joining the war it will be making the mistake of its life," marking a month of the war.

Yoav Gallant, his minister of defence, stressed Israel's commitment "to destroy Hamas".

"We are in the heart of Gaza City. Gaza is the largest terrorist base ever built," he told reporters.

Netanyahu further declared that unless the more than 240 hostages taken by Palestinian militants are released, neither fuel nor a ceasefire would be assisted to Gaza from Israel.
