Hurricane Ernesto's Destruction of Puerto Rico and a Threat to Bermuda

Hurricane Ernesto is now approaching Bermuda after devastating damage in Puerto Rico. Hurricane is categorised as category two.  The wind rushes up to 100 mph (155 km/h) and is expected to rise more when it reaches Bermuda. It poses a serious threat to the surroundings. This hurricane is the intense effect of potential climate change in the areas which worsened over time. The number of hurricanes is increasing widely because of climate change around the globe. The climate change has affected many places and changed the scenario of the countries. The hurricane is believed to be strong and intense. The government is taking necessary steps to protect the people in the country's surroundings from the hurricane. This hurricane has widely concerned researchers and policymakers.

Ernesto’s Path Of Damage :

Ernesto’s journey started in Puerto Rico and caused power loss for half of the island and industries. The electric connection is completely cut off by the hurricane. According to Luma’s president, more than 410,000 people are without electricity on Thursday. The Power grid of those places was already damaged by the hurricane that happened in 2022 thus hurricane destroyed the power grid more and it took more time to repair. Luma’s president also stated that more than 2000 people are working to bring back the electricity to the whole area.

  1. The damages are done in full extent and hence more workers are enabled to resolve it. People suffered more because of the hurricane and they lost internet connection, and electric current due to the impact of the hurricane. Officials are stating that more damages have already been made by hurricanes and yet some remain unclear.
  2. Now that Ernesto is reaching Bermuda, hence the US National Hurricane Centre is alerting the coastal areas of Bermuda to take necessary precautions and to move the people to shelter. The hurricane may become intense and strong while reaching Bermuda which in turn establishes severe damage to the islands located there. Bermuda is a small region made up of 181 islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Ernesto is on the way to threaten Bermuda with severe weather conditions.

The Role Of Climatic Change On Hurricanes:

The intensity of hurricanes is increased due to the major climate change that affects the speed and frequency of the hurricane. There is no adequate evidence of hurricanes related to climatic change. The heating of ocean water is the main reason for the starting of hurricanes. This key factor influences the hurricane to be higher energy with speed and causes devastating factors. The 2024 hurricane already witnessed five more hurricanes. This hurricane comes under category two hurricane on the record. The earliest hurricane caused more tragedy in the Caribbean, Texas last month. They left behind more destruction describing more hurricanes in the coming days.

The Formation Of Hurricane:

  1. Hurricane is called cyclones, or typhoons in major parts of the world. The hurricane is formed by the warming of seawater. These storms formed as atmospheric disturbances in the ocean water. Warm air increases from the ocean water and wind inside the storm spins because of Earth’s rotation.
  2. Certain conditions and formats are needed for a hurricane to be sustained. ea temperature should be 27 degrees Celsius. The temperature provides energy to the speed. With all these factors, certain high-energy hurricanes are formed in the ocean.

Climate Change and Influence of People:

Researching the previous hurricane because of climate change gives some information. It also gives localized and short-lived nature of storms in a particular area.

  •  At, first the temperature of sea water should be in the accurate line to meet the hurricane. The hurricane's speed and destruction depend on the temperature of the hurricane. The 2024 hurricane is also due to the warming of ocean water in the Atlantic Ocean. It is partially due to greenhouse gas emissions. The greenhouse gas is also a reason for the warming of ocean water to a certain point in time.
  •  Secondly, a warmer atmosphere is also the reason for the rainfall during the hurricane.  In 2017, hurricanes came along with rainfall which was intense, and severe and it is also related to climatic change.
  • lAt last, the rising sea level I also attributed to the hurricane in the particular region. Sea rise is severe due to the melting of glaciers and icebergs. This contributes to the warming of the seawater. The storm occurs at a high level of the sea. It also causes flooding and damage to coastal areas. The height of Hurricane Katrina that occurred in 2017 is 15-60% higher which is due to climatic change.

The Growing Concern in Bermuda:

The Bermuda will face major destruction due to Ernesto. The island coastal region is vulnerable to the effects of hurricanes. NHC has predicted that Ernesto will create a huge impact on the islands surrounding Bermuda. The storm is powerful that swipes the land and alters the livelihood of the people. The residents of Bermuda are facing major damage to the coastal area. The disruption will be severe and widespread.Local officials are asking the people to stay in shelters that are safe from hurricanes and also asking people to follow precautionary measures as soon as possible. People are asked to store essential needs. The full energy of the hurricane is expected on the Bermuda Islands which leaves the island to flood in Coastal areas.

damage

Ernesto's impact on Puerto:

  •  Power shortages in the area which affected 410,000 people.
  •  Luma Energy has been appointed to relieve the area from the hurricane damage
  •  The impact created by Hurricane 2022 Is severe and now this hurricane has made it worse.

Threat to Bermuda:

  •  The strength, intensity, and frequency will be higher when it reaches Bermuda
  •  Severe damage to the coastal areas and islands.
  •  The government is preparing for the worst hurricane damage

Conclusion:

There is a major threat to the Bermuda island which is located in the Atlantic Ocean. The hurricane will be so intense and strong. Climate change is more likely attributed to this storm.  Rising temperature has affected the sea level rise and made the possibility of hurricanes in the ocean. The hurricane is followed by heavy rainfall in the areas.
