The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pursued by "a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi" for two hours in New York, according to the duke's spokesperson, which resulted in a "near catastrophic" car chase.
According to reports, the incident took place after Prince Harry, Meghan, and her mother Doria Ragland were leaving an awards event on Tuesday.
According to reports, a half-dozen blacked-out vehicles engaged in a "relentless pursuit" of the three of them.
According to authorities, there were no recorded collisions, injuries, or detentions.
Their spokesperson said in a statement: “Last night, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi. This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD officers.
“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.
“Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved.”
As of Wednesday at 10 pm BST, no members of the royal family have gotten in touch with Harry and Meghan since the news of the incident broke, according to PA Media
Julian Phillips, NYPD deputy commissioner for public information, said: “The NYPD assisted the private security team protecting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. There were numerous photographers that made their transport challenging. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.”
When the duke and duchess are present at public occasions, there is reportedly more attention paid to them. In this instance, a source claims that they entered and left the location in full view of the public and were captured on camera by the paparazzi.
