In a dramatic incident on Sunday, former U.S. President Donald Trump was the target of what the FBI described as an "attempted assassination" while playing golf at his private club in West Palm Beach, Florida. The shocking attack comes just nine weeks after Trump survived another assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
Gunman Discovered by Secret Service
Officials say the gunman was spotted by patrolling Secret Service agents strolling along the golf course. According to these agents, they witnessed a gun muzzle poking through the bushy greens some 400 yards from where Trump was playing. One of the agents sprang forward, firing at the suspect, who promptly dropped the weapon and fled into a black SUV. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said that the gunman had abandoned two backpacks with the rifle scope and GoPro camera inside, suggesting that he might have wanted to record his assassination. The man was later taken into custody in a neighboring county, where he is still being held. According to Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, the suspect was not so much as breaking a sweat nor showing any resistance during his arrest; his motives have, therefore been questioned.
