"The Board looks forward to working with Mr. Banga on the World Bank Group Evolution process, which will be discussed at the Spring Meetings in April 2023, as well as on all the World Bank Group's ambitions and efforts aimed at tackling the toughest development challenges facing developing countries," the bank continued in its statement.
Banga most recently held the position of Vice Chairman at General Atlantic after receiving the Padma Shri in 2016. He previously held the position of President and CEO of Mastercard, a multinational corporation with nearly 24,000 employees.
He is the first Indian-American and the first Sikh-American to lead either of the world's most significant financial institutions: the World Bank and the Global Money-related Asset.
