5.5 magnitude earthquake hits the Northern California coast, no injuries reported

On Sunday, an earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude was detected by the US Geological Survey (USGS) off the northern coast of California. Thankfully, no reports of damage or injuries have been received thus far, following the occurrence of this seismic event.According to the USGS, the epicenter of the earthquake was situated approximately 108 km (67 miles) west of Petrolia, a small rural community located in Humboldt County. The earthquake had a depth of 10 km (6 miles). The USGS further mentioned that some neighboring towns in the sparsely populated region experienced minor tremors.The state of California is no stranger to earthquakes, and this recent incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing seismic activity in the area. The previous significant fatal earthquake in this region occurred in December, when a 6.4 magnitude quake struck Northern California just 5 km (3 miles) off the coast. Unfortunately, several individuals were injured, and two lives were lost as a result of that incident.
