After the mysterious murder case of Darshana Pawar in Velhe taluka of Pune district, the Maharashtra government has increased security and surveillance near all the forts. Also, police recovered the murder weapon used by accused Rahul Handore.
- What is the case?
26 year old Darshana Pawar, a very ambitious and intelligent girl who cracked MPSC and was selected as forest officer according to MPSC result 223 declared in March, was found dead in the foothills of Rajgad Fort on June 18. Her body was decomposed and police were unable to recognize her. According to CCTV footage near Rajgad fort, Darshana Pawar and her friend Rahul Handore went to Rajgad fort on his bike on 12th June. They started climbing the fort. But later he came back alone and Darshana was missing in the footage. At that point, he became the prime suspect in the case.
Her family registered a missing complaint. After some days, villagers of Gunjavane found a dead body and they informed police. In this whole scenario, even Rahul was missing and the police received another missing complaint from Handore family. But in fact, Rahul left Pune on 12th June. He went to Sangali, then Margaon in Goa. From there he went to Chandigarh and then travelled to Howrah by train. All his efforts not to get tracked by the police failed when he came to Mumbai. Police arrested him at Andheri station on June 21. And a thorough interrogation started.
- What did the police find in the inquiry?
There were many questions about the relationship between Darshana and Rahul. But they were both not in any relationship. Rahul was her friend and his native home and her maternal uncle’s house was near to each other. Rahul Hanodre was also preparing for the MPSC civil service exam. He was doing a part-time job as delivery boy.
Rahul asked Darshana for marriage but she refused his proposal. He couldn’t digest that rejection and in anger he killed her. He had a blade cutter in his pocket. He stabbed Darshana using a cutter. In the postmortem report it was clear that her body had several marks of a cutter and injuries on her head. At the crime scene, there was blood on a stone, so he used a stone to kill her.
Rahul said that he didn’t carry a cutter deliberately, but in their fight, due to anger, he used it.
Pune SP Ankit Goyal is handling the case. He got extended custody of Rahul Handore till July 3. The probe is still going on as there may be some other threads to this case.
