Fire department officials in Mumbai said there was no fire at the hotel building at Nariman Point even as videos and pictures of smoke emanating from the Trident hotel went popular on social media. According to the authorities, the hotel's boiler room was where the smoke was coming from. An official said that after a comprehensive inspection of the hotel's grounds in collaboration with hotel workers, it was discovered that there was no fire present. The hotel's management claimed that the smoke was coming from the building because the staff was cleaning the chimney.
"Smoke was flowing out of a chimney on the building's terrace due to a technical issue with a tube boiler at the hotel. We checked with the Oberoi Trident hotel management when the fire department arrived. The fire department extensively investigated the area but found no fire. Consequently, a false alert message with good intent was sent, according to a fire official. It was really a routine maintenance practice, but there was some smoke coming from their chimney and it seemed to be on fire. According to Mumbai Fire Brigade officials spoke to a news channel, "We too dispatched our teams to the area but nothing was there; we are still at the place.
