Vygr Maharashtra: Rain alert, holiday for schools, colleges in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane

Continuous rain in Maharashtra has led to water logging, flood like situations in many parts of Maharashtra. And Mumbai is no exception for this. Mumbai receives different alert from IMD every day. Since Tuesday, July 26, there is raining heavily in Mumbai and Thane. IMD issued a red alert for Mumbai and Thane districts within Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg for today July 27. 

Colaba and Santacruz received triple digit rain in just 12 hours on July 26. Nariman Point, Grant Road, Elphinstone Road, Fort these areas also observed the highest rainfall in 12 hours. This prediction of very heavy rainfall has made BMC to take a decision of giving holiday to schools and colleges today on July 27. Thane administration and Navi Mumbai administration also declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the district. Municipal corporation commissioner said, "students safety is our priority and therefore we are declaring a holiday for schools and colleges tomorrow on July 27." School Bus owners said that if rain continues, they will not run bus service on potholed roads. Also, BMC is requesting people to stay at home and take care of themselves. 

Rain has set a record for Mumbai in the month of July. In July, Mumbai has witnessed major rainfall of 1557.8 mm. This helped to increase the water level of major lakes in the city which supply water, Tansa and Vihar. In Thane districts, TMC has warned villages near Kalyan and Ambarnath as water level of Barvi Dam which supply water to the entire district is increasing. So authorities may open the doors of dam if rain continues.
