Tuesday morning, nurses at Sassoon General Hospital protested for a few hours while donning black armbands and stopping work. They were protesting the Bakshi committee report (State Pay Revision Committee), claiming that some postings in the Class II nursing cadre were unfairly treated. On February 13, the state's finance department released a government resolution approving the recommendations of the State Pay Reform Committee Volume 2 under the leadership of KP Bakshi for wage adjustment in accordance with the 7th Central Pay Commission. Up to 100 nurses from the Maharashtra Government Nurses' Association took part in the uproar on Tuesday. Along with seeing the hospital dean, they also sent a letter outlining their requests.
The association at SGH's general secretary, Madhuri Ombale, stated, "We have been bringing up this matter for months and have not gotten any answer. The Bakshi committee clearly discriminates against nurses. We will embark on an indefinite strike if our demands are not satisfied. Ombale said that the committee did not suggest a pay increase for every cadre of nurses and that certain nurses who deviate from the majority and are directly involved in patient care received different pay. She said, "We demand a general wage rise in line with the nursing cadre. "The matter is pending with the state government, and I have requested the nurses that they must not take any action that will affect patients," said Dr. Sanjiv Thakur, dean of BJMC and SGH. Their letter has been conveyed to the government by me.
