In the Nalasopara neighbourhood of Palghar district, a man was detained for allegedly raping a married 29-year-old woman on the pretence of showing her his home, police sources informed news agency ANI on Wednesday.
According to the authorities, the accused also took some explicit pictures of the victim and threatened to make it viral and kill her husband.
Following the victim's allegation, the accused, Akash Vitthal Sankpal, was detained and a case was filed against him under the Indian Penal Code, according to ANI.
The victim and the accused have known each other for the past three years and are also neighbours, according to the police.
Taking advantage of this, the accused called the woman on the pretence of showing his home before repeatedly raping her, according to ANI.
The woman told her husband about the incident, and the couple then went to the police and reported it. After filing a complaint, police detained the suspect and brought him before the judge, who then transferred him to police custody, according to police officials.
