The Goa government is working on a new initiative for small-scale farmers. Soon they will launch an online platform for Goan farmers called ‘Agri Marketplace’. Due to this, selling and purchase of local produce will be away from just a click.
There are many small farmers who cultivate on small pieces of land, some have kitchen gardens where they produce vegetables, and such producers don’t have any specific place to sell their products. There are many local varieties of fruits and vegetables which are available in specific seasons and in particular regions. But even locals are unable to buy them. So, this online platform will work exactly for these buyers and sellers.
Details of goods and location will be uploaded on a platform and buyers can place orders accordingly. This give and take will happen at a mutually accepted price. Platform provides three modes for flexible price. First is the fixed price, the second is auction and third is reverse auction by buyers. So there will be no price hike in the entire process. Finally, the agency involved in the marketplace will deliver the produce.
There are various online platforms for farmers but those structures and handling is very complex. Also, the workings of such platforms are not suitable for perishable goods. But the online agri marketplace will first analyze the issues related to this sector and will come up with better solutions to tackle the issues. They will hire a trained workforce to control the project.
Agriculture director, Nevil Alphonso said, “The success of this online marketplace at state level will upgrade this to national level.”
