In a remarkable multi-agency rescue operation that lasted for nearly 17 days, all 41 workers trapped in Uttarakhand's Silkyara tunnel were successfully rescued by dedicated rescue workers. With the assistance of Union Minister V K Singh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the workers were warmly welcomed as they emerged from the tunnel.
The National Disaster Response Force played a crucial role in bringing them out safely through a steel chute that led to a 60-meter escape passage. Around 8 pm, an ambulance arrived at the tunnel's entrance, marking the departure of the first worker. This occurred approximately an hour after a team of rat-hole mining experts tirelessly cleared the final stretch of rubble, ensuring a smooth rescue operation.
President Droupadi Murmu expressed her delight on Tuesday regarding the successful rescue of the workers who were trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand. She praised their resilience and acknowledged the nation's gratitude towards them for constructing crucial infrastructure despite facing significant personal risks. Murmu also highlighted that the workers' 17-day ordeal, during which the rescue operation encountered numerous challenges, was a remarkable demonstration of human endurance.
"I congratulate the teams and all experts who have acted with incredible grit and determination to perform one of the most difficult rescue missions in history," Murmu shared in a post on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep appreciation for the workers who were saved from the unfortunate incident of the Silkyara tunnel collapse in Uttarakhand.
" It is a matter of great satisfaction that after a long wait, these friends of ours will now meet their loved ones. The patience and courage that all these families have shown in this challenging time cannot be appreciated enough.
I also salute the spirit of all the people associated with this rescue operation. His bravery and determination have given new life to our labour brothers. Everyone involved in this mission has set an amazing example of humanity and teamwork.
