Trainer aircraft of Indian Air Force crashes in Chamarajanagar, Karnataka

Two Indian Air Force HAL HJT-16 pilots named Tejpal and Bhumika crashed their aircraft on Thursday near Chamarajanagar, Karnataka. The aircraft was known as Kiran. Tejpal and Bhumika, the two pilots, were evacuated to Bengaluru for medical attention after suffering injuries. According to a local police officer, both pilots were evacuated by HAL helicopters from Bengaluru and are now receiving medical attention at the Command hospital. To find out what caused the accident, the IAF has mandated a court of investigation. After the IAF started receiving modern Hawk Mk aircraft from the UK, the process of replacing the aged fleet of Kiran aircraft—first introduced in 1968—had started in 2008. Even though the IAF has 102 Hawk trainers in its fleet, only about 78 of aircraft are still in use.
