In the early hours of Monday, a car carrying at least seven students drove off the road, struck a divider, and collided with a cargo carrier moving in the opposite direction in Guwahati's Jalukbari neighbourhood. A few additional passengers were also hurt.
According to police, a Mahindra Bolero travelling too fast collided with a goods vehicle at around one in the morning near the DCP West office in Jalukbari. There were ten Assam Engineering College (AEC) students aboard the Bolero.
The Bolero's driver, Kaushik Baruah, swerved off course and crashed into a wall. The vehicle flipped multiple times, according to the authorities, before colliding with a cargo truck moving in the opposite direction.
Officials said that the rental car the students were in was headed towards the Guwahati airport. On the goods ship leaving Guwahati, there were three passengers.
In the Bolero, the seven people who died were all students. Arindam Bhallal, Rajkiran Bhuyan, Niyar Deka, Kaushik Baruah, Emon Gayan, Kaushik Mohan, and Upangshu Sarma have all been positively identified as the suspects.
The goods carrier and three other students in the automobile both sustained injuries, and both groups were taken urgently to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
