Eight people were killed early on Friday after a pick-up truck plunged into a gorge on the Chedakhan-Midar motorway in the Nainital region of Uttarakhand, according to authorities.According to Nainital Senior Superintendent of Police Prahlad Narayan Meena, the collision happened at about eight in the morning when the car was travelling from Patlot to Amjad village.
He added that while attempting to save a motorbike approaching from the other direction, the car plunged into the gorge. Two died in a hospital, while the other six were slain instantly. According to the SSP, among the victims of the disaster were a couple and their youngster.
Pushkar Singh Dhami, the chief minister, expressed his condolences for the lives lost in the disaster and hoped for the injured to heal quickly.According to the SSP, three accident victims have been admitted to the Community Health Centre in Okhalkanda.
