In a devastating incident on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, three individuals, including two women, lost their lives, and six others sustained injuries when a high-speed Toyota Innova collided with multiple vehicles, according to a police official's report on Friday. The official mentioned that two of the injured are in critical condition.
Krishnakant Upadhyay, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Zone 9, provided details, stating that the Innova initially collided with a Mercedes Benz car approximately 100 meters before the toll booth located at the Bandra end of the sea link, in the north-bound lane.
"The driver of the Innova attempted to flee the scene and sped away. Upon reaching the toll booth, the vehicle crashed into several cars, resulting in injuries to nine people. Tragically, three of them succumbed to their injuries," explained the DCP.
Among the six injured individuals, including the Innova's driver, two are in serious condition, and all are currently receiving medical attention, as per the DCP's statement.
Apart from the Innova, five additional vehicles were involved in the sea link accident, and a total of seven people, including the driver, were in the Innova at the time of the incident.
The DCP emphasised that a case is being registered against the Innova's driver based on preliminary information, and ongoing investigations seek to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic collision.
