The looming shadow of caste discrimination over the corporate Bangalore skyline

Vivek Raj, is an employee working in a private firm in Banglore’s Whitefields, from a Dalit community has hanged himself to death, after posting a very emotional video on youtube alleging that he was pushed to this because of the caste discrimination.

The 35 year old was found dead in his residence. His native is Kaptanganj Basti in Uttar Pradesh.  In the video posted by him on Youtube, he cried and said that “unable to fight it anymore”. This video has become viral and is widely shared, and it is deeply saddening to see a young professional being inflicted with atrocious caste discrimination torture.

In response to this, Lifestyle International, where Vivek was working, had said “We are deeply saddened to hear of the demise of our former employee. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this most difficult time. Vivek had raised a complaint through our internal process, and a thorough internal investigation was conducted in accordance with company policies, outcomes were shared with him, and the appropriate actions were taken. As this matter is sub-judice and being investigated by the police, we are fully cooperating with their investigation.”

However, the local police has filed a case against certain sections of mental abuse and caste discrimination against 3 of his colleagues, as Vivek has reported before his death, that they bullied and harassed him for the caste he belongs to.
