Delhi Assembly Elections 2025; BJP, AAP and Congress are in fray

Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: The 70-member Delhi Assembly will witness a direct contest among these three political heavyweights.

All 70 Assembly seats feature candidates among the total of 699 running for election according to the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress. The Bharatiya Janata Party forwarded 68 candidate nominations while its two ally parties JDU and LJP retained the remaining two seats between themselves.

Two prominent candidates are Parvesh Sahib Singh and Sandeep Dikshit who ran for the prestigious New Delhi parliamentary seat which currently holds Arvind Kejriwal. The sons of past Chief Ministers contested against each other.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) actively attempts to recapture Delhi from its political dominance which began in 1998. The party conducted its entire campaign against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) because of corruption allegations that affected Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with other AAP leaders.

The BJP attacks AAP because the party had not achieved successful Yamuna River cleaning and failed in both landfill management and implementing Solid Waste Management Bylaws. Multiple leading BJP officials including Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and party president J.P. Nadda alongside various state chief ministers actively participated in the last-day political campaigning activities.

The assembly election on February 5 in Delhi received an enhanced level of security with 30,000 police officers together with 220 paramilitary force units existing throughout the state according to an official's statement on Monday.

Special Commissioners of Police (Law and Order) Madhup Tewari (Zone-II) and Ravindra Yadav (Zone-I) presented preparations for the elections during a press conference.

“Personnel from Delhi Police completely maintain their dedication to conducting elections with fairness and peace as well as freedom. Special CP Ravindra Yadav declared that the pre-poll arrangements had already been established”

Both BJP and AAP leaders sought divine election success at religious sites just before the assembly vote took place. The ruling political chief of AAP Arvind Kejriwal travelled to the Connaught Place Hanuman Temple together with his spouse and offspring to supplicate for "truth" victory while Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva conducted his devotions at the Hauz Khas Jagannath Temple.

Following his trip with Chief Minister Atishi to the Election Commission, Kejriwal alleged that the combination of BJP and police forces was generating apprehension among voters. Through media interactions, he warned that BJP “goons” intend to use black ink for marking voters' fingers as a method to impede their election participation.

In response to the accusation Arvind Kejriwal received from the BJP the party denied his claims and mentioned their councillor Alka Raghav together with their party workers were attacked in Laxmi Nagar.
