Telangana's emerging technologies division has launched an advanced AI system called DeCaTron that has the potential to prevent poaching and boost tourism by analyzing millions of forest trap camera images in real-time. This is the first AI-based Forest Biodiversity Conservation Platform in India and is being piloted in Amrabad Tiger Reserve and Kawal Tiger Reserve. The platform successfully processed four million camera trap images in one week and has identified 20 species to capture camera images of, excluding tigers. The system allows for fine-grained species classification without the need for officials to visit the forest and catalogues images based on animal species. The government identified the need for AI intervention to address the difficulty of processing millions of camera trap images.
