After a pause of more than three decades, the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to permit a Muharram parade in the city from Gurubazaar to Dalgate.
Our Shia brothers have been asking for the customary Muharram march from Gurubazaar to Dalgate to be permitted for a long time. For the previous 32–33 years, it was prohibited. The administration has now agreed to permit the parade. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V. K. Bhiduri stated on Wednesday that it is a historic move.
He claimed that tomorrow's programme's peaceful conclusion would assist the administration in making decisions of a similar nature about other matters. Bhiduri warned that anyone attempting to cause trouble while wearing this mask would face harsh punishment. He claimed that the people of Kashmir had fostered an environment that had enabled the administration to make this important choice.
I wish to congratulate the Kashmiri people in general as well as my Shia brothers. They have established an environment that makes it simple for the administration to make this choice. The only issue we ran into was that tomorrow is a workday. In order to prevent inconvenience for other people, we have limited the timing of the procession to 6 a.m. to 8 a.m., according to Bhiduri. He said that the administration had made all the required preparations for the parade.
Buses will be stationed at Dalgate for the mourners, and ambulances will be on call. We are hoping that the parade will go by calmly, he said.
