SpiceJet Employee Arrested After She Slapped CISF Personnel at Jaipur Airport

A SpiceJet staff member, Anuradha Rani, was arrested on Thursday after an argument with a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer which later turned physical as she slapped the personnel. The incident, which took place at around 4 am at Jaipur Airport, has gone viral on social media.

About The Incident

Anuradha Rani, a food supervisor with SpiceJet, was stopped by Assistant Sub-Inspector Giriraj Prasad for not having valid permission to use the "vehicle gate." When asked to undergo screening at a different entrance, an argument broke out, and Rani allegedly slapped the CISF officer.

Details from CISF Officials

A senior CISF official claimed that the female SpiceJet employee was requested to go through an obligatory screening process at the airport entry designated for airline crew.

But at the time, there were no female CISF personnel available for the screening at the time, which contributed to the escalation of the argument.

According to him, the female employee then "became agitated and slapped the on-duty CISF personnel."

The officer said that now the case has been registered against her.

The Jaipur airport SHO, Ral Lal, stated that a female colleague was called for the security check, but before she arrived, the situation escalated.

Now, Anuradha Rani has been charged under sections 121 (1) (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 132 (assaulting public servant) of Bharat Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The matter is currently under investigation.

SpiceJet's Response

A SpiceJet Spokesperson came out in her defence and said that their employee faced ‘sexual harassment’ as she was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF officer.

He said, “Today, an unfortunate incident occurred at Jaipur Airport involving a SpiceJet female security staff member and a male CISF personnel."

“While escorting a catering vehicle at the steel gate, our female security staff member, who had a valid airport entry pass issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), India’s civil aviation security regulator, was subjected to inappropriate and unacceptable language by the CISF personnel, including asking her to come and meet him after his duty hours at his home," he added.

SpiceJet is taking immediate legal action in this serious case of sexual harassment against its female employee and has approached the local police. “We stand firmly by our employee and are committed to providing her with full support," the spokesperson said.
