As per reports, a two-storey godown collapse in Bhiwandi, located in Maharashtra's Thane district, on Saturday resulted in the death of three individuals, including a young girl. Furthermore, at least 11 individuals were rescued from the wreckage, while an additional 10 people are suspected to be trapped underneath. According to Avinash Sawant, the Regional Disaster Management Cell chief, the godown that collapsed at 1:45 pm on Saturday was a ground-plus-two-storey structure located in Wardhaman Compound in Valpada, Mankoli. Four families were residing on the upper floors while workers were present on the ground floor.

Mr Sawant stated that rescue operations, which have been ongoing for the past eight hours, were initially being carried out manually. Later in the evening, a dog squad and two earth movers were deployed to aid the rescue efforts. The Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, conveyed his condolences and announced that a compensation of ₹5 lahks will be provided to the families of the deceased. Moreover, the medical expenses of those injured in the incident will be covered by the state government.
