A horrific incident unfolded in the industrial area of Dharuhera, Rewari, Haryana when a boiler explosion rocked a spare parts manufacturing facility.
The Blast: Details and Casualties
According to the police, the blast occurred at the Life Long Company manufacturing unit, causing severe injuries to approximately 40 workers. The explosion, originating from a boiler dust collector, took place around 5.50 pm, while nearly 60-70 workers were on site.
Tragically, the aftermath of the blast led to six fatalities. Among the deceased were Ajay (32), Ramu (27), Rajesh (38), and Vijay (37), who succumbed to their injuries at PGIMS-Rohtak and Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Two additional workers, both in their mid-30s, lost their lives while undergoing treatment at PGIMS-Rohtak.
Government Response and Assistance Measures
In the wake of this disaster, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini visited the victims at PGIMS Hospital in Rohtak. Expressing condolences, he announced a financial aid package of Rs 5 lakh for the families of each deceased worker. Furthermore, he pledged comprehensive support for the treatment of the injured.
Saini also outlined a scheme providing financial assistance to workers based on the severity of their injuries. Those with over 75% burn injuries would receive Rs 2 lakh, while those with 50-75% burns would be entitled to Rs 1 lakh. Additionally, workers with up to 50% burn injuries would receive Rs 50,000 for their treatment.
Investigation and Legal Action
Prompt action followed the tragic incident, with the registration of a case against the responsible parties, including the contractor, based on a complaint filed by a laborer. Chief Minister Saini ordered a thorough investigation under a sub-divisional magistrate to ascertain the causes and responsibilities behind the boiler blast. He assured the public that appropriate measures would be taken based on the findings of the probe.
As the affected workers struggle to recover and families mourn the loss of their loved ones, the Dharuhera tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for stringent safety measures and proactive government interventions to prevent such calamities in the future.
