On Wednesday evening, India lost one of its greatest icons Ratan Tata. 86-year-old veteran industrialist Ratan Tata breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. In his extraordinary service to the nation, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde declared that Tata will be accorded a state funeral with all due honours.

The body of Ratan Tata is being taken from the NCPA lawns in Mumbai for his last rites. The final rituals will be conducted at the Worli crematorium.
The Maharashtra government has passed a resolution asking the Central government to give the Bharat Ratna award to Ratan Tata. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting, where Chief Minister Eknath Shinde proposed a formal motion to honor the late industrialist. The state will now officially recommend to the Centre that Ratan Tata be given India's highest civilian award.
Public Gathers at NCPA Lawns to Pay Final Respects to Ratan Tata
The body of veteran industrialist Ratan N. Tata is being taken to the NCPA lawns, where members of various parties and people are gathering to pay their final respects and to bid farewell to Ratan Tata ahead of his funeral.
Maharashtra and Jharkhand Declare Mourning
Chief minister Eknath Shinde visited the hospital and termed the late businessman Tata as the "Kohinoor" of the country. Shinde said, "His firm decisions, courageous attitude, and social commitment will always be remembered. The last rites of late Ratanji Tata will be performed with full state honours." The Maharashtra government also declared that all flags across the state would be flown at half-mast and no entertainment events were held in observance. Jharkhand's CM, Hemant Soren, spoke by stating that there would be a one-day state mourning in Jharkhand as well. Soren stated, "Ratan Tata gave world recognition to a backward state like Jharkhand."
Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said, "Ratan Tata was not just a good businessman, he was a great human being because of the work he did for the nation and the society." A statement from the Tata family thanked one and all for the outpouring of love and respect for his life and legacy that would inspire generations to follow in his steps, humility and generous ways. Tata Sons chairperson N Chandrasekaran also expressed his deep grief to term Tata as an "uncommon leader" whose contributions redefined the Tatas as well as the nation at large.
Public Farewell and Funeral
The mortal remains of Ratan Tata will kept at National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai between 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM on Today for paying the last homage to the legend. Central government presence at the funeral includes Home Minister Amit Shah. His last journey will begin at 3:30 PM, with his body taken to Worli crematorium for the last rites.
