Former cabinet minister and three-term BJP member Ratan Lal Kataria passed away on Thursday at the PGI Hospital in New Delhi. He was from Ambala, Haryana. He was then 72 years old.In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Kataria defeated Kumari Selja, the head of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee, from the Ambala (reserved) seat by garnering 57% of the vote and a significant margin of nearly 3.42 lakh votes.In 1999 and 2014, he won a seat in the Lok Sabha, representing Ambala. In the Lok Sabha elections of 2004 and 2009, Kumari Selja beat him.Both Speaker Gian Chand Gupta and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed their condolences on Kataria's passing; she would later that day be cremated in Panchkula with state honours.
