In a bid to bolster indigenous innovation in defence production, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates ‘DefConnect 2024′ in New Delhi today.
Organized by Innovations for Defence Excellence-Defence Innovation Organisation (iDEX-DIO), the event aims to forge partnerships and tackle emerging security challenges. It serves as a pivotal moment in India’s defence innovation landscape, uniting key stakeholders such as the Armed Forces, defence industry leaders, start-ups, academia, and policymakers.
iDEX Framework: Collaborative Innovation for Progress
At the heart of this innovation ecosystem is the iDEX framework, a brainchild launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018. This framework provides a unified platform for various stakeholders in the defence and aerospace sectors, acting as an umbrella organization overseeing technology development and potential collaborations.
One of iDEX’s unique features is the co-development model, enabling military personnel to collaborate directly with innovators. Serving as end-users, nodal, and domain experts, the military’s involvement helps guide innovation and seamlessly integrate advancements into existing platforms. This collaborative approach leverages the expertise and insights of the end-user, ensuring practical and effective solutions.
