In the history of MSRTC (Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation), Archana Atram from the Pune division is the organization's first female driver. She managed the ST Bus in the Pune district between Saswad and Nira.
Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister, also praised her and tweeted “Another glass ceiling broken! Ms. Archana Atram creates history by becoming the first woman driver of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation. She drove the ST Bus from Saswad to Nira (District Pune). Soon we will see Ms. Atram with a woman bus conductor and all passengers with 50% discount on fare are women too! Congratulations to Archana and all women drivers who joined MSRTC!”
One hundred women ST bus drivers have been chosen by MSRTC for the position, including Archana. Although they were chosen in 2019, the epidemic prevented them from finishing their training. Six of them have entered the service since their recent training completion, which involved a total of 18 of them who were receiving training in the Pune division.
Archana is from the village of Sarkani in the district of Nanded. Although the MSRTC had begun hiring female conductors for ST buses, the driver position had only ever been reserved for men.
Furthermore, the MSRTC marked the 75th year of Amrut Mahotsav on Wednesday, June 14.
