As per several reports, Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Praveen Sood is set to assume the position of the next Chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Hindu, confirms his selection for the prestigious role, while The Tribune states that he is one of the three IPS officers shortlisted for the position. On Sunday, an official notification was issued announcing the appointment of Praveen Sood as the next head of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sood, a 1986-batch IPS officer of the Karnataka cadre, was chosen alongside two other candidates: Sudhir Saxena, the Madhya Pradesh DGP of the 1987-batch MP cadre, and Dinkar Gupta, the 1987-batch IPS officer of the Punjab cadre.
According to sources cited by The Hindu, the selection panel consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, chose Sood. The report further reveals that Chowdhury submitted a dissent note regarding Sood's recommendation, citing that he was not originally shortlisted for the top CBI job and was included at the last minute.
