Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Surat, Gujarat to inaugurate two significant projects today, the Surat Diamond Bourse and the new terminal of Surat Airport.
In a statement released by The Prime Minister's Office (PMO), they emphasized, that post-inauguration, the Surat Diamond Bourse will stand as the world's largest and modern hub for international diamond and jewelry business.
The Surat Diamond Bourse, a part of the Diamond Research and Mercantile (DREAM) City, earned recognition from the Guinness World Records in August this year, as the world's largest office building.
Prime Minister Modi shared details about the inauguration ceremony along with some photos of the megastructure in a post on "X" and mentioned, "In Surat tomorrow, the Surat Diamond Bourse will be inaugurated. This will be a major boost to the diamonds industry. The ‘Customs Clearance House’, Jewellery Mall and facility of International Banking and Safe Vaults will be significant parts of the Bourse".
After the inauguration event, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to his Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi, where he will participate in several events.

Situated in Khajod village near Surat city, on a 35.54-acre plot, the Surat Diamond Bourse building secures the title of the world's largest office complex, spanning across 67 lakh square feet. Constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs 3,500 crore, it has the capacity to accommodate nearly 4,500 diamond trading offices.
This megastructure comprises nine ground towers and 15 floors, offering office spaces ranging from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft. The nine interconnected rectangular towers are unified by a central spine. The building holds a platinum ranking from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
It is set to become a global hub for the trading of both rough and polished diamonds, as well as jewellery. It features advanced facilities such as a 'Customs Clearance House' for seamless import and export, a jewellery mall catering to retail jewellery business, and provisions for international banking along with secure vaults, as outlined in the official statement.
Billionaire diamond trader Vallabhbhai Lakhani, who serves as the Director of Kiran Gems, has relocated his Rs 17,000-crore business to the Diamond Bourse. Additionally, he is in the process of developing a mini-township to provide housing for his employees.
