Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a significant three-day visit to Poland and Ukraine today. This trip will be the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Poland in 45 years since Morarji Desai went there in 1979. This visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of India and Poland being friends in diplomacy.
India and Poland officially started their diplomatic relations in 1954. Shortly after that, India opened its embassy in Warsaw in 1957, and Poland opened its embassy in New Delhi in the same year.
What's on the agenda?
Tanmaya Lal, secretary (West) of the External Affairs Ministry, said on Monday that PM Modi will meet with his Polish counterpart, Donald Tusk, during his visit. He will also meet with Poland's president, Andrzej Duda, and the Indian community. Modi will get a ceremonial welcome in Poland's capital, Warsaw. He will also meet with leading ecologists and business executives during his tour.

Indian Community in Poland
About 25,000 Indians live in Poland, which has about 5,000 students. During "Operation Ganga," the Polish government and people helped a lot in bringing Indian students out of Ukraine. Lal said that over 4,000 Indian students were brought home through Poland in 2022.
