Passenger hits Indigo Pilot after 13 hours of flight delay

Bad weather, including thick fog, caused an over 10-hour delay for an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Goa. Co-captain Anup Kumar was beaten by a passenger by the name of Sahil Kataria, and he was hauled off by another passenger. The incident was captured by a third passenger as they were recording the captain's announcement of further departure delays. Kataria, now in Delhi Police's custody, charged up from his seat in the last row, raising questions about safety on board planes.

The video of the assault shows the IndiGo crew rushing to help Kumar and members of the cabin crew remonstrating with him, asking him why he couldn't do this. Kataria then yelled, "Chalana hai to chala, nahi to khol gate... (If you're going to fly, then fly; otherwise, open the gate." It is audible that another individual has been stuck here for hours.

The Airbus A20N is a short- to medium-range single-aisle aircraft, scheduled to take off from Delhi at 7.40 a.m. Unfortunately, there were a lot of delays and cancellations at the IGI Airport due to poor weather, especially thick fog. This morning, at least 168 planes were cancelled, and almost 100 flights had delays.

Kataria was arrested after being dragged off by the police and taken into custody by authorities: said sorry to the captain. A police complaint has been filed under sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 41, which allows arrests without a warrant, and the offense of "voluntarily causing hurt," all of which require bail.
