The Twitter account of the Pakistani government has been blocked in India for the third time, with a message stating that it has been withheld in response to a legal demand. This action was taken in compliance with Twitter guidelines, which require the site to respond to valid legal demands such as court orders. The account was previously blocked in July and October of 2022 but had been reactivated and made visible again. Twitter's move follows India's actions in banning the official accounts of Pakistan Embassies in the United Nations, Turkey, Iran and Egypt on the platform in June 2022. In August 2022, India implemented a ban on eight YouTube-based news channels, which included one from Pakistan, and also suspended a Facebook account for disseminating content that was fake and anti-India in nature. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in India confirmed that this action was taken under the emergency powers provided by the Information Technology Rules, 2021. The ban was imposed due to misleading thumbnails, images of news anchors, and logos from particular TV news channels, to deceive viewers into thinking that the news was genuine.
