NEET-UG: Even if there is 0.001% negligence, it should be dealt with, says SC to NTA and the Centre

June 18: The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, issued notices to the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Central government in response to appeals alleging paper leaks and exam malpractice. The counsel representing the Center and the NTA was warned by a Vacation Bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice SVN Bhatti saying -

"Even if there is 0.001 per cent negligence on the part of anyone, it should be thoroughly dealt with,"

The SC stated that although students study diligently for these exams, and the litigation related to the exam should not be handled in a conflicted manner. It also added a statement that said

"Imagine a person who has played fraud on the system becomes a doctor, he is more deleterious to the society".

The Bench also addressed the NTA counsel by saying

"Representing an agency which is responsible for conducting the examination, you must stand firm. If there is a mistake, yes this is a mistake and this is the action we are going to take. At least that inspires confidence in your performance,"

The top court emphasized that the authority must respond promptly and said that the pleas, along with other ongoing petitions, including those requesting an order to administer the exam again, would be heard on July 8.
