Mumbai has been kept under high alert after central intelligence agencies issued alerts that a terrorist threat was probable. With the city set to see major religious festivals in the following weeks, security around crowded locations especially religion sites and Crowded Places has Enhanced. Security has been beefed up across the city at all major locations. Religious destinations, like temples, have been told to be vigilant and inform the authorities in case of any such suspicious activities as the festive season has been arriving.
Anticipating festivals like Durga Puja, Dussehra, and Diwali, the government is taking these precautionary steps ahead of time. On Friday, police conducted dummy drills at different crowded places, including crowded Markets, The police said that this was just routine security drill preparation for the festival season along with the Maharashtra state assembly elections, expected to be held in November.
Deputy Commissioners oversee security arrangements
The Deputy Commissioners of Police have been asked to ensure very tight security in their respective zones. They are specially concentrating on the high-trafficked areas, especially where people are expected to gather for festivals. On his visit to the Matunga temple in Chembur locality, a senior officer visited a temple and insisted on inspecting security arrangements in place. Meanwhile, the temple was closed to the public.
Mock drills for preparedness
Police sources say that high-level mock drills are taken out regularly in different parts of the city that are generally overcrowded. These drills are designed to enhance preparedness in case of an eventuality. The police said they are on full alert, working closely with central intelligence agencies, keeping track of any unusual activity.
