MP Danish Ali suspended by BSP, for his involvement in ‘Anti-Party Activities’

Kunwar Danish Ali, a Lok Sabha member from Amroha, was suspended by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on December 9 for anti-party conduct. "You have been told verbally many times that you should not make any comment contrary to the party's policies and ideologies, but despite repeated warnings, you have been continuously doing so," says Satish Chandra Mishra, the party's national general secretary. The letter went on to say, "In the interest of the party, you are being suspended from the membership of the BSP with immediate effect." The BSP, on the other hand, did not explain what alleged anti-party activities it engaged in against Mr. Ali.

The lawmaker ban comes as he continues to seek action against Ramesh Bidhuri, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from South Delhi who used religious slurs against him inside Parliament on September 21. Mr. Bidhuri apologised before the House's privilege committee on December 7 for his harsh and disrespectful remarks.

Mr. Ali, who formerly worked for the Janata Dal (Secular), joined the BSP before the 2019 parliamentary elections and won Amroha in Western Uttar Pradesh by over 63,000 votes. He has taken a line opposite the BSP in recent months, arguing for opposition unity, claiming that the need is stronger currently than ever before, and urging opposition groups to join.

He was recently in the news as one of the targets of one of Parliament's most heinous exchanges. He had asked Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to take action against BJP member Ramesh Bidhuri for statements made about him during the Lok Sabha debate on the Chandrayaan 3 mission. "In the House, the BJP MP was speaking. He remarked during his address that some people wanted Prime Minister Modi to die like a dog. I interrupted and asked him what he was saying, noting that no one had ever said anything negative about the Prime Minister. Then he called me names like 'terrorist'. What is taught in their shakhas, I'd want to ask RSS chairman Mohan Bhagwatji. Is this what they learn in PM Modiji's Pathshala?" Ali stated.
