The Indian Army launched three missiles at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan.
The firing exercise took place at the Pokhran Field Fire Range (PFFR) when three surface-to-air missiles failed to launch due to a technical fault. Three rockets went out of range and hit fields in different villages, causing loud explosions.
However, no damage rendered to any life and property was reported.
Defense spokesman Lt. Col. Amitabh Sharma said the missiles were mistakenly fired during a military exercise. A preliminary inquiry has been initiated into the matter and further action will be taken.
"The missile exploded safely in flight, but debris fell on adjoining fields," he added
