On July 5, Jammu and Kashmir became the first Indian state to debut a Tele-MANAS chatbot designed to initiate an immediate discussion with people in distress. This year, more calls of distress were made from Kashmir to the Tele-Manas centre than ever before.
J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who launched the 'J&K Health Conclave' on Mental Health and Non-Communicable Diseases in Srinagar, said that the programme would make health counsellors, clinical psychologists, and consultants available around the clock. The Lieutenant Governor praised the Health Department for raising public awareness about mental health and other potentially fatal non-communicable diseases.
The L-G emphasised the J&K government's dedication to ensuring that healthcare is available to all residents of the state by praising the new landmark measures unveiled today.Both the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMHANS) are signatories to MoUs with the J&K Health and Medical Education Department. According to him, the Preventive Oncology Service, Day Care Centres, and Palliative Care Service at District Hospitals would all be significantly aided by the MoU's provision of substantial technical support.
Services, training, and capacity building for medical officers and nurses in the field of mental health are all areas in which NIMHANS, Bengaluru, has been entrusted with improving. The Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS), Srinagar, received 10,500 calls from people in distress across Jammu and Kashmir within the first six months after the inauguration of Tele-MANAS in Kashmir.
According to the Lt. Governor, Jammu and Kashmir has some of the highest healthcare spending in the country. The Lt. Governor stated that efficiency, accessibility, and robustness have been prioritised during infrastructure upgrades and construction projects. For the betterment of J&K's healthcare system, the Lt. Governor recently opened 44 new healthcare facilities at a total cost of Rs 56.18 crore.
