A man has duped the Leela Palace hotel in Delhi of Rs 23,00,000 lakh by posing as an employee of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) royal family. The man, identified as Mohammed Sharif, checked into Room 427 of the Leela Palace on August 1, 2022, and stayed till November 20, 2022. He fled the hotel without settling the bill of Rs 23,46,413. According to the hotel management, he is charged with taking cutlery, a mother-of-pearl tray, and other things from his room. Based on a complaint made by the hotel's management, the Delhi Police have charged the man with fraud and theft.
According to an FIR, the man checked into the hotel using a bogus business card. His Highness Sheikh Falah Bin Zayed AL Nahyan's office, where he pretended to be a key official.
"On arrival, he also presented a residence card from the United Arab Emirates. It appears that the visitor provided these cards to present a false impression and win additional trust with the intention of cheating/deceiving the hotel in the future, "The FIR said.
