Drones have been used by authorities at the Nashik jail in Maharashtra to monitor inmates and prevent fights. Twelve drones equipped with cameras and night vision were purchased earlier in April by the Maharashtra prison department to help monitor security at some of the state's largest jails. According to officials, the use of drones is intended to accomplish two goals: first, keeping an eye on inmates in the jails and second, preventing theft of jail property. The robots will be utilized at Maharashtra's eight focal detainment facilities of Yerawada, Kolhapur, Harsul (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Nashik Street, Thane, Taloja, Nagpur, and Amravati, authorities had prior said.
The officials added that drones will also be provided to the two open prisons of Visapur (Ahmednagar) and Morshi (Amrawati) as well as the two district prisons of Chandrapur and Kalyan.

The assassination of Tajpuriya resulted in the transfer of up to 99 Tihar jail employees. The action was taken following the release of CCTV footage of Tillu Tajpuriya's death, which showed other inmates continuing to stab the main suspect in the Rohini Court shootout in front of uniformed personnel who did not intervene. Standing nearby Tillu Tajpuriya, who was lying on the ground, the police could be seen watching three men use lockup grill-made weapons to stab the gangster. Nine Tihar Jail employees, including the assistant superintendent, were later suspended as a result of this incident.
