Maharashtra govt. to reclaim 5 airports leased to Anil Ambani firm

According to the discussion held in state assembly, Maharashtra government has decided to take back the five airports, which were leased to a firm of Anil Ambani in 2008-09 for 30 years. Five airports includes Baramati, Nanded, Latur, Yavatmal, Osmanabad were give to RADPL of Anil Ambani.

Deputy CM provided a reason saying there has been a lot of issue of regional connectivity as there are few slots connecting to other important cities in the state available in Mumbai airport.

RADPL is not looking at the airport, there has been no kind of maintenance done and also the firm is not paying statutory dues, which led Maharashtra government to take legal action for restoration of airports with suggestions of advocate general. State government will pay the dues and recover it from the firm.

These 5 airports are not functional yet, and therefore the government has decided to set up a committee to look at the airport management and development.

Within this issue, there are many doubts regarding the functioning of the Navi Mumbai airport. Government said that it will start soon in 2024.
