Mahadev App Owner Ravi Uppal Arrested in Dubai Following Interpol's Red Notice

Based on a red alert issued by Interpol at the request of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), local officials in Dubai have detained Ravi Uppal, one of the main owners of the Mahadev online betting app, according to official sources.

According to sources  Uppal, 43, was brought into prison last week, and the ED is actively working with Dubai officials to make his repatriation to India easier. The Enforcement Directorate is looking into a money laundering case that is connected to imprisonment. In a case involving charges of kickbacks against the departing Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Bhupesh Baghel, Uppal is an identified accused.

In October of this year, Red Corner notices were served on Uppal and Sourabh Chandrakar, the other mastermind and promoter of the illegal betting network who is presently residing in the United Arab Emirates. These notifications came after the ED went to a special court in Raipur to request a non-bailable warrant against them.

According to sources, Chandrakar might be arrested soon after Uppal was taken into custody. For almost two years, Chandrakar and Uppal have made Dubai their home. Uppal reportedly holds a degree in engineering. They operate out of Dubai and retain 80% of the earnings.

The Mahadev app offers ways to gamble illegally on a variety of live games, including football, tennis, cricket, badminton, cards, and chance games. It also gives users a way to wager on Indian elections. Additionally, it offers the opportunity to play a variety of card games, including virtual cricket games, poker, dragon tiger, and "teen patti."

In October, the ED appeared before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, with a money laundering charge sheet against Uppal and Chandrakar. The agency had told the court in the charge sheet that Uppal had obtained a passport from Vanuatu without giving up his Indian citizenship.
