A powerful and emotional protest erupted in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, against the Ken Betwa Link Project.

Villagers from 14 affected villages staged a dramatic demonstration by lying on funeral pyres and putting nooses around their necks, demanding fair compensation and proper rehabilitation.

The intense protest forced the administration to take notice. Collector Parth Jaiswal has now formed special teams for a fresh and transparent survey.

This time, external officers will conduct the survey instead of local staff to ensure fairness. Voter lists, BPL cards, electricity bills, and school records will be used to verify eligibility.

The protest has been temporarily called off, but villagers have warned of stronger agitation if their demands are not met.
