Kejriwal concedes defeat, says will sit in opposition

New Delhi, February 8, 2025 – Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has conceded defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections. In a video message, Kejriwal accepted the people's mandate with humility and congratulated the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on their victory.

"We accept the mandate of the people with great humility," Kejriwal stated. "I congratulate the BJP for this victory and I hope they will fulfil all the promises for which people have voted them".

Kejriwal reflected on the work done by AAP in the past decade in areas such as health, education, and infrastructure. He assured the public that AAP would continue to serve them, even while sitting in the opposition.

"We will not only play the role of a constructive opposition but will also remain among the people and continue to serve them," he said.

Verma, the son of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, gave credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of Delhi for the win. According to the Election Commission (EC) website, Verma led by a margin of 4,099 votes at the end of the 13th round of counting. Verma's vote count was 30,024, while Kejriwal had 25,925 votes.

Verma told the media that the new government would bring PM Modi's vision to Delhi and thanked the Prime Minister and the people for the victory.
